The Single-Celled Organisms

The Single-Celled Bio-Mechanical Organisms (SCOs)—the first of its kind—displayed its first signs of life on, given our current bio-mechanical dating platform(s), (t)QDT 402.00.

From the folds of the Quasidimension it emerged. Small at first, but larger with each pulse; the QDT seemed to be thrusting rhythmically. In so doing, a “tear” appeared in the continuum of the Quasidimension. From it, an [arm] first, then some sort of body, followed by what (we can assume) were legs.[1] It was gelatinous and hovered weightlessly in the void of the QDT. Although seemingly shiny, no [light] reflected its surface. A mysterious fluid cyclically perspired from its surface only to vanish moments later[2]. It remained stagnant, continuing to drip for a pentok[3], motionless.

The SCO’s name denotes, as its title suggests, a single cell that controls the functionality of the entity. Beneath its gelatinous exoskeleton, and at the center of its physical being, a single cell exists. This cell dictates the organism’s movements and (willed or unwilled, yet non-autonomous) decisions in the Quasidimension. The cell, like those in EDT, contains cytoplasm, ribosomes, mitochondria, lysosomes, vacuoles, a nucleus, etc. The SCO however, as the name implies, features a mechanical component.

[2] This process, known as Shedding would remain integral to the SCO’s function.
