Comparison is a Bitch

—Comparison is a Bitch—

It really is. There will always be someone better than you; someone more talented, more successful, more willing to go the extra mile. Or perhaps they’re just luckier, richer, have the right last name, met the right person, or just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Whatever the reason, comparing your work to others almost always produces the same result: I suck.

But you don’t. Well, maybe sometimes you do—or your work sucks. I tend to lean more traditionalist when it comes to art, i.e., objectively bad art exists. Hopefully you have the eye and/or the wherewithal to determine whether your work sucks. If it does, move on or create something new. If it doesn’t, stick with it, push hard; be the squeaky wheel. Like I said in an earlier post: Believe In Your Work. If you do, good things will come. I think…

That’s all for now; just a short one.

Peace,
